Final project
This piece was inspired by a song I had previously composed about the anxieties over self-infatuation. Originally conceived as a music video for that song, I soon learned animating is an extremely laborious art – I, personally, am not capable of making a four minute animation in less than five weeks. Thus, I scratched the music video idea and forged ahead, using the song merely as inspiration. The outcome is a comical, stop-animation that draws on slapstick comedy with a youthful, contemporary aesthetic.
My ideas were slowly tweaked by the creation process. I found that not all the images I captured for the animation were usable and I was then forced to “fill in gaps.” To remedy this, I utilized color frames that actually grew into a more vital role within the piece. They add to the disorientation of the action, emphasize certain scenes, and overall give the piece a more contemporary and colorful MTV feel.
