Assignment 2
Final project
I created my project in hopes to connect two different practices of art, those being animation and comics. I wanted to portray the fact that the illusion of time can be created in comics by comparing it to computer animation. I accomplished this through the skills I learned and utilized in PhotoShop this quarter.
By creating a series of simple comics involving an alien abduction I was able to show the illusion of time in both comic form and animation form. The animation involves three different comics all involving the alien abduction. The only difference is they show the illusion of time differently. The first involves subtle and abrupt movements, the second involves the use of words to convey a passing of time, and the third metadata. Each comic I allow the audience to view for about ten seconds, giving them time to take in and understand the frames and to fill in the “gutter”. After each comic I would play out the same scene through animation showing time as continuous.
I really enjoy the fact that you can create an illusion of time in comics, and I hope my animation helps the viewers understand how it is possible.
