My artwork titled “A Horse’s Dream” is inspired by Muybridge’s stop motion experiment of a horse running on a race track. I used the stop motion tool quite often and was very pleased with the results. It creates an illusion that makes viewers believe things are actually moved by the wind or actually moving across the screen. Transformation and morphing is an important essence in this artwork. I used opacity color changes as the horse changed to another character. I like the fact that horse’s, added or subtracted a detail can become another mammal or even a mythology creature. The horse is first dreaming deep into his sleep. As the dream goes on he dreams that he is a racing horse then transforms into a wilderness horse, then unicorn, then zebra, then rocking chair horse, then in the last frames the horse is back in reality; sleeping in the grass as the sunset continues to rise.
I would like to share my thoughts with others and hope others take into consideration my idea that at one time or another a zebra or donkey or mule may in fact have been a just a normal horse at the beginning of time. Also, no human scientifically knows how a horse thinks or feels or even dreams. As the animator using imagination, I can create a horse’s dream based my personal dreams. When people see my work, I’d like them to consider the horse’s dream as a reality slap. There is no actual dream in this work but instead it’s a virtual that we as individuals have the power to make into reality. This artwork is important because it’s a metaphor that expresses that fact that people can change their outer layers and become someone different. Someone they never knew they could be. Take notice of the continuous scene changes and transformations of the horse. As we glide through different phases of our lives, we will enter into different environments. We meet new people and we create new impressions. You and I all have the power to change through time.
