Assignment 1
Assignment 2
Final project
With the visuals in the piece I was attempting to synthesize Japanese wood-block printing (Ukiyo-e) aesthetics. The piece was made using Photoshop/ImageReady and a graphics tablet. Aside from the use of the gradient tool and a handful of translational tweens, all images and animations were done by hand. The project was mostly an experiment to see if it was possible to make an animation using the aesthetics of an older form of visual art, being Ukiyo-e in this case. Given that this was only a precursory study into Ukiyo-e I decided to try to adapt only two of the many techniques used in the medium: specifically the use of gradients and the alterations of line weight/structure for emphasis. The success of the project would open up the possibility for further studies into the media for myself and hopefully spread the concept of borrowing from older forms of visual art in animation.
