Assignment 1

Assignment 2

Final project

The project entitled Repocalypse was created using simple designs derived from classic arcade games and some real images meant to give the work a partial connection to the real world. The animation takes the viewer a satiric scenario that could be face by a politician that started out with the best of intentions to emphasize the inevitable corruption in American government. The sad truth that fear and vengeance are more viable tools than issues of welfare and global warming, until recently, are displayed through the protagonist’s change from concerned citizen to warmongering politician. The conclusion of course shows the cycle of political corruption becoming a permanent and ultimately earth ending process.

Beyond the primary political meaning lies a philosophical epiphany that display’s the human race’s inability to perceive the present and effect change. The protagonist is set upon a straight line through the entirety of his life on some sort of conveyor. Important moments and events pass by him as he is pushed onwards towards his own death, completely unable to affect the present. As his life draws to a close, history sees only a gravestone and a multitude of explosions to commemorate his destructive life. This speaks to everyone’s lack of present consciousness and our futile attempts to make a difference. Everyday horrible atrocities happen across the planet in the name of ignorance and we sit, helpless to even acknowledge the immense sufferings of others until it is too late. This project was made to bring to light the evils of man and the ease with which it could be stopped. In truth we are only able to regret the past and fear the future.
