Final project

I created the animated piece Day Dreamer for two reasons. The first was that I wanted to use many of the technical ideas presented during the course. The second was that I wanted to use this as an opportunity to explore and analyze the various historical and philosophical ideas also presented in the course. In order to create Day Dreamer, I used the Macromedia Flash program. The program’s tweening and keyframe features allowed for many techniques other programs wouldn’t have been able to support. With Flash taking care of all the technical aspects of animation, I was able to concentrate on what ideas I wanted Day Dreamer to convey. The change in pace when the daydream ends and reality begins shows the subjectivity of time. The kid’s boredom while sitting in the corner shows how time has become a commodity, echoing Scott Bukatman’s views. The various transitions between reality and dream give a sense of liminality, transformation, and morphing.
