I created this piece of art to convey an idea of what happens to time and motion when fear is present. The idea is that time and motion are both measurements of each other. You cannot have motion without time and you cannot have time without motion; therefore everything real is always in motion. However when fear is present, to the viewer, time seems to slow down. I explore what happens when time to the viewer slows down to the point where time stops. When time stops nothing real can have motion. Therefore the only things that are in motion are things that are not real. This is shown through the dragon eyes in the end, which can only happen through fear. Therefore I use images of evil vs. good and ideas from William Blake (eventual triumph of darkness, sharp 45 degree angles) to emphasize this fear.
To achieve my goals in this animation I used a combination of stop-motion photography and 2-D animation. The stop motion is used to convey the natural, real world, while the 2-D animation is used to convey the unnatural, unreal dragons that do not live through the constraints of the real world. I feel it important to think about our perspective of time and motion when altered by fear for times when overwhelmed by fear can be pivotal to one’s existence.
