Literature Browse & Search Page

Your institution probably has excellent subscription access to indexing, abstracting, and full-text databases that permit aggregated searches and such. However, many historical volumes are inaccessible in the usual current content repositories. We've assembled some Web-based resources that provide access to the earliest years of some of our field's most important publications.

RCN Project Documentation

Includes a lightly edited version of the documentation submitted for our NSF Research Coordination Network grant and E-BIRD USA Travel & Reimbursement information

ESF/NSERC/NSF Final General Workshop: Coping with Environmental Change: Integrating Avian Ecology and Endocrinology
Glasgow, Scotland | November 17-19, 2006
Workshop Planners: Pat Monaghan, Peter Sharp, Bengt Silverin, Marcel Visser
This final workshop aims to present an overview of studies in progress that resulted from collaborations established in the framework of the E-BIRD network. This will enable us to assess to what extent the network has been able to stimulate interactions between endocrinologists and ecologists during the last three years. Speakers will be invited to present studies in which ecological and endocrinological approaches are combined to resolve a scientific problem related to avian reproduction. The meeting will provide the necessary information required for the preparation of a programme proposal to financially support integrated research combining endocrinological and ecological approaches. Representatives from laboratoires that were not involved in the initial E-BIRD network will be invited to the workshop. This will enable us to extend the existing network to countries that were not initially involved, in order to develop a pan-European integrated research platform focusing on impacts of environmental changes on different aspects of avian reproduction. ESF Technical Workshop: Endocrine Measurements for Ecologists
Glasgow, Scotland | November 17, 2006
Workshop Organizer: Peter Sharp
Invasive techniques used to assess endocrine function often involve sampling blood and tissues, and these are the topic for discussion in this workshop. Three techniques which are widely used, and one which may become widely used, have been identified, each with a lead speaker. Each speaker is asked to describe the technique with protocols found to be most useful. Examples will be given of how each technique has been used to address eco-endocrinological questions. The limitations and future possible applications of each technique will be discussed. Full description ... Contact the organizer
ESF Technical Workshop: How Animals Cope with Environmental Changes
Loch Lomond, Scotland | November 15-17, 2006
Workshop Organizer: Kathryn Arnold
This workshop focuses on providing postgraduates and early stage post-docs with the intellectual and practical skills to establish interdisciplinary collaborations between the fields of endocrinology and ecology. Full description ...
NSERC/NSF/ESF Workshop: Individual Variation
Vancouver, British Columbia | March 15-18, 2006
Workshop Planners: B. Sheldon, T. Williams
This event is configured as 2 two-day workshop sessions: The first (Wednesday/Thursday) focusing on Canadian issues, such as the effects of climate change on Canadian avian populations. The second session (Friday/Saturday) will focus on individual variation. For more information, see the E-Bird Canada meetings page, or contact the organizers.
