How is the project being funded?
The ECC Construction Project is part of a bundled UW construction bond funded by the Services & Activities Fee (SAF) that includes the Husky Union Building (HUB) and Hall Health renovations.
When is the ECC construction project expected to be done?
The new Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center is scheduled to be done by the end of the year (2012), and will have a grand opening in January 2013.
Will there be office and meeting space available at Condon Hall?
Condon Hall has less space than our current building which challenges us to accommodate all organizations that have offices and hold meetings in the current building. We are working on solutions to accommodate as many organizations as we can, in the most equitable way possible. We will have a better idea beginning in February.
Will there be storage space for affiliated student organizations?
Yes. There are two possibilities for storage: 1) space in Condon Hall will be available for things you use throughout the academic year; 2) There will be storage available off-site, but anything you wish to store there will not be accessible until We move into the new building. We are working on exactly how much space will be available.

UW '74 – I believe that the reasonable option would be to use a photograph technique to document the murals and not go through a risky and expensive attempt to save the murals. Saving the murals could involve splitting the wallboard paper in order to discard the asbestos in the gypsum portion of the wallboard. Taking it all down in a single piece will be very risky if not impossible. This could easily damage the mural where a photo image could easily be reproduced in a number of mediums that are list as options.
The murals were done in my time at the UW and I think consideration should be given to reflect the students of today for a new mural. Some historic documentation of what was there before is reasonable to me. This would include information on architect Ben McAdoo.
I was surprised that the mural walls were never painted over in the +40 years they have been up.
I was around this University when Eddie Walker was commissioned to do those murals. I worked for one year 1980-1981 at the Ethnic Cultural Center/theatre and viewed those murals daily as I rented out various rooms to clients. It is as much a part of "my own personal U.W. history" as it is to the ECC's. I want to see them in the original form SOMEWHERE, if at all possible. Otherwise I would imagine the next best thing would be to take digital photos and use in the manner prescribed under #2.
Thank you for taking the time to ask for personal comments and to read them!
