{"id":1,"date":"2015-04-07T01:42:11","date_gmt":"2015-04-07T01:42:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/ecc\/lwb\/?p=1"},"modified":"2015-10-09T19:26:42","modified_gmt":"2015-10-09T19:26:42","slug":"hello-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/ecc\/lwb\/2015\/04\/07\/hello-world\/","title":{"rendered":"UW Participates in United We Dream&#8217;s National Institutions Coming Out Day (NICOD)!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>On April 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 2015, the University of Washington, along with over sixty other institutions of higher education across the nation, participated in the first National Institutions Coming Out Day (NICOD) to reaffirm its commitment to work with and for undocumented students.<\/h3>\n<p>The Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center and the Leadership Without Borders Center (LWB) planned and organized the university\u2019s participation in NICOD. \u00a0The event featured student speakers, workshops for faculty &amp; staff, a resource fair of community partners, and the unveiling of the Leadership Without Borders Center\u2019s vision statement\u2014to foster an empowering, safe, and inclusive community for undocumented students across the UW system and at-large community. The event convened a group of over 70 individuals representing various units across campus as well as community organizations who pledged to work with and for undocumented students through the LWB Center. In addition, on that day, the Office of the President issued a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/president\/2015\/04\/07\/national-institutions-coming-out-day\/\">Presidential Message<\/a> to reaffirm the university\u2019s commitment to support undocumented students. Part of the message stated:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We are proud to be a University that wholeheartedly welcomes and supports undocumented students on the first \u201cNational Institutions Coming Out Day,\u201d launched by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitedwedream.org\/\"><span class=\"s2\">United We Dream<\/span><\/a>Network\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/unitedwedream.org\/about\/projects\/education-deep\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Dream Education Empowerment Program<\/span><\/a>. All three UW campuses have a variety of services for undocumented students and participate in the statewide coalition to train educators about how to best support students on their path to and through college.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The event marked another milestone in the work the LWB Center is doing to build a comprehensive pathway for undocumented students access and success at the University of Washington and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On April 7th, 2015, the University of Washington, along with over sixty other institutions of higher education across the nation, participated in the first National Institutions Coming Out Day (NICOD) to reaffirm its commitment to work with and for undocumented students.
