Stephen Padua
Student Theatre Technician

I enjoy snowboarding, rugby, soccer, football, outrigger canoeing, running, raquetball, working out, eating, and sleeping. I just don't get to do any of that very often. I don't like attending boring lectures, studying about those boring lectures, and then getting tested on those boring lectures. That is pretty much all I do now.

Student Webmaster/ Graphical Designer

Julius Tan
Computer Technician

Dan Miller
Student Resource Cordinator

A current junior majoring in Linguistics & International Studies and planning to minor in Arabic and French, Daniel is definitely a cool guy. Some of his many favorite things include reading, checking his Gmail and Digg.com constantly while surfing the web, learning more about Ubuntu and FOSS, occasionally paintball, hiking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, cycling to class, looking for new music on the iTunes store (Daft Punk!), and like anybody from the PNW, grab a venti from the nearest Starbucks on a daily basis. Daniel's goal in everyday life is to break the monotony as much as possible and make a few people laugh while trying. A book is a mirror: if an ape looks into it an apostle is hardly likely to look out. We have no words for speaking of wisdom to the stupid. He who understands the wise is wise already. -Georg Christoph Lichtenberg

Reuben Deleon
Student Resource Cordinator

Hi, my name is Reuben Deleon and I am currently a Junior in the Sociology program. I have been around the Ethnic Cultural Center for a total of four years now, starting with the E.M.P.O.W.E.R. high school outreach program. E.M.P.O.W.E.R. is an acronym for "Educating Minority People to Overcome with Education and Respect" and allows high school students to have a voice on many of the social issues that plague us today. I have spent my entire life in West Seattle and always felt that I wanted to do something big. As of right now I am going to be perusing a double major in Sociology and Law, Societies, and Justice. With this I hope to get into law school and give access to legal advice to those in my community. Through my short time in this University I have learned that many people in our world deserve more opportunities than given to them. When I am not stressing about a paper or getting a reading done I like to work as a director and mentor in E.M.P.O.W.E.R. and give high school students the skills to succeed in the academic world. Without my own mentors helping me find my potential I would not have accomplished nearly as much as I have. When I was accepted I wanted to pass on the same motivation and guidance that they gave to me. Besides that I like to write poetry, make music and laugh about anything and everything.
Leadership is integral to success. I picked up early on that the world continues to work with or without your consent, so I feel like taking charge is the only full proof way to ensure you get what you want out of life. Someone one told me to "step up or step out of the way" and until this day I like to say that to anyone that will listen simply because it is short and something that can hold true forever.
Maile Kaneko
Student Resource Cordinator

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. I spent the last year in Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University and will be transferring to the UW as a sophomore. I have a passion for social justice and mentoring kids and will be majoring in American Ethnic Studies. For the past three summers I have taught summer school in Jonestown, Mississippi. I also volunteers tutoring at Jackson Park in North Seattle. My experiences have taught me that there is much improvement needed in society; I aspire to change what I can. I also enjoy basketball, shopping, a good conversation, and anything that can make me smile. An ancient Japanese saying states that, The nail that sticks out the farthest, get hits the hardest.
A leader is bold and unafraid to stand out— courageous enough to be an individual amongst a group. A leader motivates by his or her actions, beliefs, and integrity. A leader inspires change.
Brukab Sisay
tudent Resource Cordinator

My name is Brukab Sisay. I'm a sophomore majoring in business. I was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia but I've also lived in London prior to moving to Seattle. For fun I like to snowboard, play video games, and hang out with my friends. I'm also involved in the UW Dream Project where we help first generation and low income high school students with college and scholarship application processes. In the future I plan to own my own business and travel in my spare time.
I would define leadership as the ability to lead but also follow. I think that anyone can order people around but to be a good leader you have to be able to listen to and respect that views and ideas of the people your working with.
Rebecca Coil
Student Resource Cordinator

Hi! My name is Rebecca Coil and I am a freshman at UW. I’m from Pullman, WA (yes, home of the Cougars, don’t hate) and love living in Seattle. I plan on majoring in Biology and pursuing Pre-Vet. I love being involved in community service during my free time and am looking forward to getting involved in everything Seattle and UW has to offer! A leader to me is someone to stands out of a group by being able to lead others through hard work and respect.
A leader sets a goal for change and can accomplish it with charisma and commitment.
