ADMINISTRATIVE

Administrative Information

Staff

The EEU staff is composed of administrative, professional, and support staff who, working together, provide services to the children.  Faculty from the College of Education work with the staff in research, training and service activities.  The staff members include the director, school principal, administrative personnel, teachers, student aides, computer support personnel, volunteers, school nurse, social worker, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech and language pathologists.  In addition to the regular classroom staff, special projects personnel and some College of Education faculty occupy office space in the Unit.

Physical Plant

Within the building, which contains approximately 41,000 square feet of floor space, there are a number of different areas which have been designed to facilitate the accomplishment of the specific functions or objectives of the unit.  Each classroom has a connecting teachers' office and an observation booth that permits students in professional training to observe and take data through a one-way window.  Each classroom also has an attached outdoor area where activities essential for the children's development of certain skills may be taught.  In addition to the outdoor classrooms, there are indoor play areas for children of different age levels and a centrally located, covered playcourt where young children can play in any kind of weather.  A multipurpose room, located at the east end of the building, is used for therapy, gym, and lunch; an outdoor basketball court is adjacent to this room.  Another unique feature of the building is the Instructional Center, in CD150, which is a 100 seat auditorium with a wide screen video projection system.

Reception

The receptionist, located in CD101, is responsible for general typing tasks and is aware of most events occurring in the building.  Other responsibilities of the receptionist are handling custodial requests, answering phones, taking messages, supplying keys, and reserving state cars.  You should introduce yourself to the receptionist as soon as you begin working at the Unit and tell her or him your room number and telephone extension.  If you have any work study personnel or volunteers under your supervision, make sure they also leave their names, room numbers, and telephone extensions with the receptionist.  If you change rooms and/or telephone numbers, please inform the receptionist immediately.  The receptionist will assign you a mailbox.  Check the box regularly; even if you do not have any mail sent to the Unit, you will be receiving announcements, general memos, and telephone messages.  The receptionist may also be available for light typing.

Conference Rooms

Calendars for all three conference rooms (CD 172B, 106A, 106D) are located in a binder in the main office (CD 101).

  • Each conference room has a section (separated by dividers) and a map in front of the calendar with the conference room highlighted.
  • Each calendar includes all 7 days of the week and months for the rest of the school year and summer.
  • The binder is blue and clearly labeled "Conference Room Sign Up".
  • It is located on the counter under the reception window of the lobby.

To Sign-up for a conference room, include the following information on the day(s) you would like to reserve:

  • Your name
  • The name of the classroom or group (i.e., PDA, Outreach, etc.)
  • Time (include duration)

Keys

Obtain office keys from the receptionist in CD101.  Report lost keys immediately.  The building is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  If you wish to use the building after hours, you must obtain a special key and building pass and make building use arrangements with the receptionist in advance.  A master key is available at the front desk.  It must be checked out and returned immediately.

Return: Cameras must be returned before 4:00pm on the same day.  You must return the camera to either the Assistant Principal or the PDA Program Manager in person. You cannot leave the camera unattended.  When the camera is returned, either the Assistant Principal or the PDA Program Manager will place the battery in the lock box and sign the Check Out Slip.  The camera is not officially "returned" until the Check Out Slip has been signed (i.e., you are still responsible for the camera until the Check Out Slip has been signed by either the Assistant Principal or the PDA Program Manager).

State cars are available to the staff for pupil/parent home visits, attending work-related meetings, etc.  The school secretary in CD101 makes reservations for use of a state car.  State cars may be picked up at the Motor Pool located on 25th NE, north of UW Stores and the 45th Street viaduct.  When picking up a state car, it is possible to leave personal vehicles in a Motor Pool lot.  Motor Pool is responsible for taking care of breakdowns.  Their number is 545-1564.  Personal cars can be used for business, and the driver reimbursed, provided prior approval has been obtained.  See Kate Ahern, Admissions Coordinator, to arrange field trip transportation.
