Interactions with children (IMAC)
Everyone should be doing one of four things when interacting with children in the classroom:

1. Imitating the children (watching how the children use the blocks and doing the same thing)
2. Modeling new actions (showing the children how to make a house with the blocks or using the blocks to make a road)
3. Asking questions ("What color is that block?"  "How many blocks did you use?")
4. Commenting on what the children are doing ("You are building a tall tower with those blocks.")

* Keys to success:

• Get down on there level (both physically and conceptually)
  • Physically: play on the ground and try to be at eye level with the children
  • Conceptually: use direct, specific and age appropriate language – talk about things that are a part of the children's everyday experiences
• Be animated – get excited about small things
• Keep trying
