We want to thank you for selecting the Experimental Education Unit (EEU) as a site for your student experience. We hope that your experience with us will be both fun and educational. In an effort to coordinate and provide you with basic information about the Experimental Education Unit (EEU), we have developed an online orientation.

Step 1: Review Information about your role in the classroom

• Maintain professional conduct and attire
• Set up and clean up activities
• Assist children on and off school buses
• Provide support tochildren during transitions
• Monitor children during activities and play
• Provide support tochildren during activities
• Engage children during activities and play
• Encourage child participation
• Model skills for children
• Request feedback from classroom staff and make appropriate changes

Step 2: Review some specific information about how to support children in the classroom

Interactions with children (IMAC)
Everyone should be doing one of four things when interacting with children in the classroom:

Imitating the children (watching how the children use the blocks and doing the same thing)
Modeling new actions (showing the children how to make a house with the blocks or using the blocks to make a road)
Asking questions ("What color is that block?" "How many blocks did you use?")
Commenting on what the children are doing ("You are building a tall tower with those blocks.")

* Keys to success:

Get down on there level (both physically and conceptually)
- Physically: play on the ground and try to be at eye level with the children
- Conceptually: use direct, specific and age appropriate language – talk about things that are a part of the children's everyday experiences
Be animated – get excited about small things
Keep trying
