Puget Sound OEM Grand Rounds -December 8, Seattle

Cost: $45 includes dinner and lecture. A no-host bar will be available. The evening starts with dinner from 6:30-7:00 pm, which is followed by a lecture from 7:00-8:00 pm.

OSHA 301: Excavation, Trenching & Soil Mechanics—December 8-11, Seattle
Focus on OSHA standards and on the safety aspects of excavation and trenching. Introduction to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavation. Various types of shoring are covered, and testing methods are demonstrated. Course includes a hands-on, half-day field exercise. This course has been approved for 3.5 Safety CM points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.
Fulfills elective course requirement for Safety & Health Specialist Certificate.

Focus on Safety: "Lock-out Tag-Out and Electrical Safety"—December 15, 2003, Seattle,
8 am -noon

This class will provide a basic review of electrical hazards and the current OSHA and WISHA regulations pertaining to electrical safety on the job. Additionally, GFCI’s and Assured Equipment Grounding Conductor Testing procedures will also be reviewed. The requirements for Lock-out Tag-out Tryout will be summarized and required written procedures will be discussed,

OSHA 501: Trainer Course for General Industry—January 5-8, Seattle
Introduction to OSHA's general industry standards and an overview of requirements for frequently referenced standards. Students who successfully complete this course will be authorized to conduct the 10- and 30-hour voluntary compliance courses and able to locate OSHA policies, procedures, correct standards in 29 CFR 1910, identify common OSHA standard violations and appropriate abatement procedures for selected safety hazards. This course has been approved for 3.5 Safety CM points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.
Fulfills core course requirement for Safety & Health Specialist Certificate.

OSHA 510: Standards for Construction – January 5-8, Portland
OSHA policies, procedures, and standards, as well as construction safety & health principles. Emphasis on those areas that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive certification cards and be able to locate the correct OSHA standards in 29 CFR 1926; identify common causes of accidents and fatalities in hazardous areas of construction; and, identify abatement techniques for such hazards.
This course has been approved for 4.0 Safety CM points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.
Fulfills core course requirement for Safety & Health Specialist Certificate.
Cost: $575, $100 discount per person for multiple registrations.

Boise course: OSHA 511: Standards for General Industry – January 13-16
Federal and state policies, procedures, and standards, as well as general industry safety and health principles. Emphasis on most hazardous areas. Equivalent to 30-hour general industry outreach course.
Prerequisite for OSHA 501 course.
Cost: $575, $100 discount per person for multiple registrations.

Diesel Exhaust & Human Health: Current Scientific & Policy Issues -- January 16, 2004, Seattle,
8 am-5:30 pm

Diesel engines drive American industry and transportation, yet have been linked to environmental and health problems. Engineers are seeking ways to reduce pollution from diesel exhaust with improved fuels and engine technology. This course will review the latest information about health effects, exposures and controls, and policy changes affecting diesel exhaust.

Annual Hazardous Waste Refreshers --January 20, 21, 22, Seattle and January 23, Olympia, 8 am- 5 pm
Employees involved in hazardous waste operations can receive their annual 8 hours of OSHA-required refresher training by attending this course. Each course is taught by John Malool of the New York-New Jersey Education Research Center. Group exercises, lectures, and a case study provide students with real-life approaches to hazardous waste site operations. Class size is limited to 30 to ensure interaction between instructor and participants. Register early as classes fill quickly.
Cost: $195; $145 government rate (cost includes lunch)

Focus on Safety: Competent Person — January 23, Seattle, 8 am-5 pm
Over twenty-five standards reference competent or qualified persons. In this one-day course you will learn the qualifications, training and responsibilities associated with the standard. You will receive a workbook with the complete course content, skill checklists, and site inspection forms for excavation safety, fall protection and other situations involving competent and qualified persons.
Cost: $145 (includes lunch)

Tools and Techniques to Improve Your Safety Training Programs -- February 11, Seattle, 8 am – 4:15 pm
Learn how to improve your safety training from Rick Gleason and other expert trainers.
Safety and health professionals need to be effective trainers if their messages are to make a difference in the workplace. This course will identify occupational safety and industrial hygiene resources and demonstrate effective training methods utilizing resources from OSHA, OR-OSHA, WISHA, and AK-OSHA. At the end of this course, participants will be able to build a library of training resources and understand how to improve their safety training programs.
