Focus on Safety: Scaffolding
March 9, Seattle, 8 am 5 pm
Instructor: Clarence Atchison, Safety Training and
Risk Reduction
This seminar will help supervisors and workers identify
and control the hazards that cause the most serious
scaffold-related injuries. This course provides safety
checklists for specific types of scaffolds. Hazards
are identified, as well as the controls that keep
these hazards from becoming tragedies. The course
will address the requirements of Subpart L requirements
in capacity, scaffold platform construction, criteria
for supported and suspended scaffolds, access and
use requirements, fall protection, and falling object
protection.

will be available. The evening starts with a social

Zoonotic and Vector-borne Disease:
Current and Emerging Issues -- March 12, Seattle,
8:30 am- 4:30 pm
This course will update veterinarians, physicians,
wildlife handlers, extension agents, environmental
health professionals, and other health officials on
the status, trends, and issues regarding zoonotic
and vector-borne diseases. The course focuses on diseases
that are of the greatest threat to public health in
the Pacific Northwest. Course topics include: zoonotic
diseases of current veterinary and public health importance
to the Pacific Northwest; zoonotic diseases associated
with emerging vector-borne diseases, including those
of pets and petting zoos; and, integration of veterinary
medicine with public health

OSHA 2015: Hazardous Materials
March 16-19, Seattle
This course covers general industry standards, and
integrates materials from other consensus and proprietary
standards relating to hazardous materials. Topics
include: flammable and combustible liquids, compressed
gases, LP-Gas; cryogenic liquids, and related processes,
such as spraying, dipping, and electrical equipment.
This course has been approved for 3.5 IH CM points
by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.

OSHA 2225: Respiratory Protection
March 22-25, Portland
This course covers the requirements for the establishment,
maintenance, and monitoring of a respirator program.
Topics include OSHA and ANSI standards, NIOSH certifications,
and medical evaluation recommendations. Course also
includes a fit-testing workshop. This course has been
approved for 3.0 IH CM points by the American Board
of Industrial Hygiene.

OSHA 521: Guide to Industrial Hygiene

limits, state and federal health standards, regulations
and procedures, respiratory protection, engineering
controls, hazard communication, sampling instrumentation,
workplace health program elements, and other industrial
hygiene topics. Workshops in health hazard recognition,

OSHA 6000: Collateral Duty for
Other Federal Agencies March 29-April 1, Spokane
This course enables participants to recognize basic
safety and health hazards in the workplace; learn
abatement methods for selected safety and health hazards;
learn workplace inspection procedures consistent with
established OSHA policies, procedures, and directives;
learn the OSH Act, 29 CFR 1960, 29 CFR 1910, and major
provisions of Executive Order 12196; and conduct a
mock inspection of a government facility. This course
has been approved for 3.5 Safety CM points by the
American Board of Industrial Hygiene.

OSHA 500: Trainer Course for ConstructionApril
5-8, Seattle
Students who successfully complete this course will
be certified to conduct the 10- and 30-hour voluntary
compliance courses in construction safety and health
outreach programs and will be able to find the correct
OSHA standards in 29 CFR 1926, identify common causes
of accidents in hazardous areas of construction, and
identify abatement techniques for hazards found in
construction. This course has been approved for 4.0
Safety CM points by the American Board of Industrial
Hygiene

Shipping & Receiving of Hazardous
Materials for Laboratory Operations April 30,
Seattle
This class will discuss shipping regulations as they
apply to laboratory operations where it is typical
to ship and/or receive small quantities of chemicals,
biohazards or radioactive material. Course topics
include: Proper packaging and labeling of shipments
to meet DOT and IATA regulations; proper terminology
and procedures for filling out the paperwork; information
to be sure your hazardous waste manifest is correct;
steps to take if there is an accident involving a
shipment of your organizations hazardous material;
security issues; practical problems typically found
in shipping and receiving hazardous materials in laboratory
operations and how you solve them.
