Puget Sound Occupational and Environmental Medicine Grand Rounds Tuesday, June 8, 2004

Puget Sound Occupational and Environmental Medicine Grand Rounds begin with dinner served from 6:00-6:15 pm, followed by a lecture from 7:00-8:00 pm. Doors open at 5:15 pm to allow time for networking. Latecomers who arrive after 6:15 may or may not be served dinner based on availability.

Location
The Faculty Club, The University of Washington, Seattle. More information regarding the location and directions to the facility will be included in the confirmation letter mailed approximately 2 weeks prior to the course date.

Registration
$45 per course, includes dinner and lecture. A no-host bar will be available.

Enrollment is limited. Advance registration is required at least 4 business days prior to the course date and accepted in the order received. Cancellation policy: Participants may cancel up to one week prior to the event. After this date, fees will be forfeited. Substitutions will be accepted with advance written notice.

Accreditation
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the Northwest Association of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing education for physicians.

OSHA 501: Trainer Course for General Industry
Professional Development: 2.5 CEUs
Tuition: $595

Introduction to OSHA's general industry standards and an overview of requirements for frequently referenced standards. Students who successfully complete this course will be certified to conduct the 10- and 30-hour voluntary compliance courses and able to:

  • Locate OSHA policies, procedures, correct standards in 29 CFR 1910.
  • Identify common OSHA standard violations and appropriate abatement procedures for selected safety hazards

This course has been approved for 3.5 Safety CM points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (Approval #04-345).

Prerequisites: OSHA 511 and five years of general industry safety experience.

2264    Permit-Required Confined Space Entry
Professional Development: 1.9 CEUs
Tuition: $525

Topics include: OSHA required confined-space entry standard, hazards of entry procedures, personal protective equipment, ventilation and purging requirements, calculations and techniques, and atmospheric testing equipment. Hands-on training with combustible gas monitors, oxygen meters, toxic gas test equipment, and confined space rescue procedures.

This course has been approved for 2.5 IH CM points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (Approval #04-340).

Prerequisites: OSHA 222A, or equivalent knowledge.

2015            Hazardous Materials
Professional Development: 2.5 CEUs
Tuition: $575

This course covers general industry standards, and integrates materials from other consensus and proprietary standards relating to hazardous materials. Topics include:

  • flammable and combustible liquids
  • compressed gases
  • LP-Gas; cryogenic liquids
  • and related processes, such as spraying, dipping, and electrical equipment.

This course has been approved for 3.5 IH CM points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (Approval #04-336).

2045            Machinery & Machine Guarding Standards
Professional Development: 2.5 CEUs
Tuition: $575

Course Director: Troy Corbin

Focus on common machinery types and related safety standards, hazards associated with various machinery, and control of hazardous energy sources (lockout/tagout). This hands-on course presents an approach to machine inspection that enables participants to recognize hazards, such as those created by points of operation, rotating parts, and flying chips, and provides options to achieve abatement.

3010            Excavation, Trenching, & Soil Mechanics
Professional Development: 2.5 CEUs

Course Director: Kurt Stranne

Focus on OSHA standards and on the safety aspects of excavation and trenching. Introduction to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavation. Various types of shoring are covered, and testing methods are demonstrated.Course includes a hands-on, half-day field exercise.

This course has been approved for 3.5 Safety CM points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (Approval #04-341).

511 - JUNE CLASS IS CANCELLED - Standards for General Industry
Professional Development: 2.5 CEUs
Tuition: $575

Federal and state policies, procedures, and standards, as well as general industry safety and health principles. Emphasis on most hazardous areas. Equivalent to 30-hour general industry outreach course. Prerequisite for OSHA 501: Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry.

This course has been approved for 4.0 Safety CM points by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (Approval #04-349).
