Safe patient handling programs are critical to the well being of both patients and healthcare employees. Washington's pioneering 2006 safe patient handling legislation has focused greater attention on the necessary elements for effective SPH programs. This conference will bring together national experts and Washington hospital direct care staff who are developing and implementing SPH programs to discuss both the challenges and successes. Specific topics include:

- Legislative update
- Hazard assessment
- Design of facilities for safe patient handling
- Managing change and gaining involvement
- Purchasing the right equipment
- Effective training

The program is structured to promote participation and help attendees get their questions answered. A vendor fair will run the entire day with exhibits of equipment, supplies, and programs.
