Methods

We have the capability and equipment to perform most OSHA, NIOSH, and EPA analyses.

The Trace Organic Analytical Center has been involved with many areas of research. The following are examples of methods that have been utilized or developed in our laboratory.

  • Analysis of organophosphate metabolites in human urine. We also participated in the EPA round-robin for this analysis.
  • Analysis of pesticides in dust and soil samples.
  • Arsenic speciation and determination of total arsenic in human urine. Other matrices have included hair, fur, and water.
  • Analysis of mercury in urine using atomic fluorescence spectrometry.
  • Determination of trace levels of aromatic hydrocarbons in blood and metabolites in urine.
  • Analysis of nitrous oxide in urine after we refinement existing methods.
  • Measurement of methoxyphenols in urine and air samples as a unique marker for wood smoke exposure.
  • Analysis of volatile organics in breath.
  • Analysis of methyl t-butyl ether (MTBE) and its t-butyl alcohol metabolite in blood and breath.
  • Determination of pyrolysis products of aerospace composites.
  • XRF analysis for metals content of soils and other materials.
  • Passive monitor calibration.
