Course Grade

ESRM 472, Wetland Ecology

Autumn quarter 2007

The course grade will be calculated from three components:

1. There will be two examinations that together are worth 70% of the total grade.

2. There is a paper. It it worth 20% of the final grade.

The paper should be written about something that you have measured in a wetland. You need to go to a wetland or wetlands and make measurements, observations and comparisons. A good model is to a) observe differences (vegetation, birds, insects, etc.), b) hypothesize why the differences occur (could be environmental characteristics like salinity, water depth, duration of flooding, etc.), c) measure these environmental characteristics where you have noted differences in vegetation, birds, insects, etc. d) describe relationship between the environmental characteristic and the biotic response.

The paper may be written by an individual, or as a group project. If you prepare a paper as a team, you must fill out a peer evaluation form (you will be evaluating your teammates and yourself).

3. Write a trip report for each field trip. You will be given a format for the report for each field trip. Trip reports combined are worth 10% of the course grade.
