Environmental Health (EH) Bachelor’s Degree Graduation Requirements

You can apply for admission to the Environmental Health Bachelor of Science degree within one quarter of completion of the admission prerequisites. If you're interested, please contact the Department of Environmental Health. We are located in the Health Sciences Center (F-Wing room 461D). Admission Prerequisites

  • General Chemistry - 1 year CHEM 142, 152, 162
  • Organic Chemistry* - 1 year CHEM 237, 238, 239 (or 223, 224)
  • Introductory Biology** - 1 year BIO 180, 200, 220
  • English Composition - 1 quarter ENGL 131 or equivalent
  • Calculus - 1 quarter MATH 124 or equivalent
  • Physics coursework is not required for admission to the Environmental Health major. However, students must complete PHYS 114/117 and 115/118 (or PHYS 121 and 122) to satisfy Environmental Health graduation requirements. We strongly recommend students complete the physics requirement by the end the program's first year.

*Organic Chemistry labs are not required for admission to the Environmental Health major.
**UW students must complete CHEM 152 before beginning BIO 180.

  • ENV H 432 (4) Sampling and Analysis II [W]
  • ENV H 433 (4) Sampling and Analysis III [Sp]
  • ENV H 472 (3) Environmental Risk and Society [A]
  • ENV H 482 (2-15) Environmental Health Internship [A,W,Sp,S]

    2a. Choose two of the following:

    • ENV H 440 (3) Water and Waste Sanitation [A]
    • ENV H 441 (3) Food Protection [W]
    • ENV H 445 (3) Solid Waste Management
      (will not meet requirement if taken ENV H 446) [Sp]
    • ENV H 446 (3) Hazardous Waste Management
      (will not meet requirement if taken ENV H 445) [W]
    • ENV H 490 (3) Community Air Pollution [Sp]

3. Required Non-EH Courses (17 credits)

  • EPI 420 Introduction to Epidemiology (3) [Sp]
  • STAT^ 311 Elements of Statistical Methods (5) [A,W,Sp,S]
  • TC 333^^ Advanced Technical Writing (4) [A]
  • MICROM 301 (3) & 302 (2) General Microbiology w/Lab [A,Sp,S]

^STAT 220, Q SCI 381, and Q METH 201 will also satisfy the requirement.

^^Students should take TC 333 Autumn quarter. Versions of the course offered other quarters require an additional prerequisite.

4. Interest Area Electives
