The University of Washington has offered undergraduate education in environmental health since 1947. The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences identifies, seeks to understand and helps manage the effects of the environment on human health. Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health, students should be able to:

  • Define current environmental health needs and problems for the community;
  • Implement environmental health changes through application of technical, legal and behavioral knowledge and skills;
  • Provide comprehensive solutions to environmental problems;
  • Recognize and become involved in opportunities for gaining public support for environmental health changes; and
  • Understand organizational structures in order to work effectively and efficiently within the boundaries of any agency to promote internal functioning.
