Prospective Students
Environmental Health at the University of Washington (UW) is a great major for those who are interested in promoting health and preventing illness; excited about applying science studies to real-life problems; and are curious about how we might better manage environmental hazards.
Environmental Health is a competitive admission major that admits students every quarter. Students should apply while they are completing their last quarter of prerequisites courses. Applications are due the third Friday of each quarter. For exact dates, see the UW Academic Calendar.
Environmental Health welcomes students who have varied cultural experiences or educationally or economically disadvantaged backgrounds who will contribute to the intellectual and social enrichment of the department.
Transfer Student Information
Washington community college students should use an Academic Planning Worksheet and online equivalency guide to help plan for transfer. Please consult the transfer admission website for more information about applying to the UW and plan to attend the weekly Transfer Thursday program.
Students transferring from other colleges and universities should also use an Academic Planning Worksheet to plan for transfer. Since transfer equivalencies are not available until after enrolling at the UW, students should take courses that best match, in title and description, the requirements as offered from other regionally accredited institutions.
Transfer students may apply to the major at the same time they are applying to the UW. For example, a student planning to transfer in autumn 2011 would apply to the UW by February 15, 2011 and to the major by the third Friday of the spring 2011 quarter (April 15, 2011). If major prerequisites will not be complete by spring 2011, contact a department adviser for counseling.
