The process of research is what we are learning about in this class. What comes to mind/heart when you hear the word research? Do you think about the subjects you will study? Perhaps you think about the objects you will study? Whatever comes to mind for you, how do you know that you are not just finding what you expected to find in the first place?
This latter question is where the poem comes into play.
Think about what research means to you, and filter those thoughts/reflections through the message/s in the poem. Write your reflection paper based upon how, if at all, the poem helps you think about some of these issues. For example, who's speaking and to whom in the poem? Subject/object to researcher? Researcher to subject/object? Researcher to community of scholars? All of the above and more? There's no limit here, so have fun with it. Be sure to ground your thoughts in specific sections of the poem, if certain lines speak more to you than others. Don't just say it, show it.
Let me know if you have questions or need additional clarification. Remember, there is no right or wrong answer. Nor is there a page limit on what you must write to successfully complete this assignment. I do expect the paper to be typed, double-spaced, and written coherently, though. Again, this is not a journal or diary entry.
