CHALLENGING THE ACADEMY:
BUILDING STRENGTH THROUGH DIFFERENCE

The Walker Ames Room

Welcome

Each year, the Early Identification Program (EIP) for Graduate and Professional Studies hosts a conference where students, faculty, and staff convene to share intellectual ideas, engage in a variety of discussions, and build collegial relationships.

This conference is staged as a professional meeting that allows our students to present their findings of original research they have conducted throughout the year in collaboration with a faculty mentor. The event also represents a unique opportunity for our students to be exposed to the scholarly work of fellow EIP students who are making a contribution to the scholarly and intellectual atmosphere at the University.

The event also offers the staff an opportunity to publicly recognize the accomplishments of many of our students, especially the seniors who will be moving on to graduate and professional programs in the fall, and our younger students who have received summer internships and various honors and awards.

This year we are also very proud to announce the launching of our new Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, a federal Department of Education grant designed to help students from low-income and first-generation college backgrounds, and students from traditionally underrepresented in graduate education, pursue the Ph.D.

Finally, we are very excited to have Dr. James Antony, Assistant Professor of Education offering the opening remarks for our conference.

The Office of Minority Affairs and the entire EIP and McNair staff welcome you to this year’s conference. We hope you will have an enjoyable time throughout this evening.
