Who are we? |
Above: Dr. Steve and his kids/Dr. Steve overlooking Robben Island, Cape Town, South Africa I earned my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, with an emphasis in the sociology of higher education. I also earned an M.A. in Education, with an emphasis in counseling/guidance. My conceptual training is grounded in student learning theory, with a focus on multicultural and feminist approaches to understanding a student’s developing sense of self. Our sense of self pertains to who we think we are, and who we think we can become. My actions, publications, and conference presentations consistently address two themes: means for building community and ways of pushing thoughtful dialogue toward informed action. Specifically, matters of cultural capital, habitus, and ideology are central in my work. Further, matters of power/knowledge, (subject) positioning, and agency are also key constructs within my work. |
