95 students joined us this Fall as North America 9 and Regional 24. The students represent 70 small, medium and Fortune 500 companies, and include entrepreneurs and representatives from the public sector. North America 9 students will travel to Seattle from Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New York and Oregon, as well as from throughout Washington.
Thank you to all our alums who have helped us recruit and refer prospective students this past year.
In 1982 Professor Kasi Ramanathan and Jan Monti founded the University of Washington’s Executive MBA Program. Kasi has been with the University of Washington for 37 years. He was the EMBA Faculty Director from 1982-85. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Accounting from July 2002 to June 2005. Kasi has taught in the Aims (Boeing Leadership Program) since approximately 1984. On Thursday, September 7 Dean Jim Jiambalvo, Associate Dean Gary Sundem, Kasi’s family members, Jan Monti, five Charter Class members, and several friends and colleagues from the Business School attended his retirement dinner at the Columbia Tower Club to express their appreciation for his tremendous contributions to the Business School. Bob Bowen did a great job as emcee.

Kasi, Jan Monti and members of the Charter Class.
Congratulations to Scott Carson, a member of the Executive MBA Charter Class, who was recently named president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Scott has worked for the Boeing Company for 30 years. He has held several positions at Boeing including President of Connection. Scott is a great supporter of the Program and over the years he has sponsored several EMBA students.
Friday, August 11th was the 20th anniversary of Belina Makonnen joining the EMBA Program Staff! To recognize and commemorate her years of service and incredible impact on the Program, we decided to have a surprise party. 60 Business School Faculty, Staff and EMBA Program Alumni along with her family joined us in the Bank of America Executive Education Center on Thursday, August 10th to surprise Belina.
Our 2007 International Study Seminar will take EMBA students to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Dick Moxon, former Executive MBA Faculty for International Management and current Program Consultant of Global Partnerships (a micro-finance organization) has agreed to be the faculty advisor for this trip. Participants will visit several companies in both Argentina and Brazil. Company visits are an integral part of the trip (tentative company visits include Embraer, Volkswagen and Ogilvy). While visiting these companies, students will attend presentations given by senior management.
Our third annual summer barbecue was held on Wednesday, August 16. This year we combined our Alumni BBQ with a recruiting event for prospective students, who attended an information session at the end of the event. It was great to see so many Alums! We appreciate their willingness to share their experiences in the Executive MBA Program with prospective students.

Thomas Lerch, Bryan Jobes, John Smith, and Susannah Scholl (members of EMBA Regional 22) formed “The Executive Excellence Campaign” last spring to raise funds to help take the quality of the EMBA program to the next level (supporting new initiatives such as establishing program ties with International Business Schools, improving academic instruction, etc.). A medium-term goal of the campaign is to propel the UW Executive MBA program into the Top 10. The committee sent a letter to all EMBA alums to encourage participation in the campaign. Before graduation, several members of both Regional 22 and NA 7 (Class of 2006) followed up with phone calls to Alumni.
To date, the campaign has raised $25,000.00. Contributions can be sent to: Executive Excellence Campaign, c/o Executive MBA Office, Box 353220, Seattle, WA 98195.
The new recruiting season has officially kicked-off with 15 information receptions scheduled this year. We invite you to join us at any one of these events listed below and/or refer a friend/colleague. Prospective students can sign-up online at www.emba.washington.edu.

Executive MBA Recruiting Kits were mailed-out recently. Please let us know if you have not received a kit. The recruiting kits provide a brief program update, a copy of our “Is an Executive MBA Right For You?” brochure, and information how to refer a colleague and a contact update form. We encourage you to pass this handy kit along to a friend/colleague who may be interested in learning more. Thanks again for continuing to support the Executive MBA Program.
If you are traveling to/from Sea-Tac Airport be on the look for new EMBA advertising. The large banners are located in the Alaska and Delta/American terminals (concourses A and D).
