UW Business School’s New Dean
Jim Jiambalvo an EMBA and MBA accounting faculty is the new Dean of the UW Business School. Jim has been with the UW Business School since 1977. He was the Chairman of the accounting department (1992 to 1996) and the faculty director of E-Business (2000-2003). He holds the PricewaterhouseCoopers and Alumni Endowed Professorship. His research has been published in the top accounting journals. He is author of the textbook Managerial Accounting (Second Edition) published by John Wiley and Sons. He has taught numerous executive education courses for Alcoa, Boeing, Microsoft, Tyson and other major firms.
On February 24, Jim Jiambalvo moderated for “The New Era of Corporate Governance” panel discussion with Bonnie W. Soodik, Senior Vice President Office of Internal Governance, The Boeing Company; Keith Loveless, Vice President Legal and Corporate Affairs, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, Alaska Airlines; and Rick Greaves, Partner, PriceWaterhouseCooper LLP. We had about 40 attendees and the discussions were very interesting.
2005 International Study Seminar
 |
Thirty-two second-year Regional and North America students participated in the 2005 International Study Seminar in Beijing and Shanghai, China March 12-20. Also in attendance were EMBA Director, Louise Kapustka, Professors Bob Bowen and Jane Kennedy, Assistant Professor Shuping Chen and Assistant Director Belina Makonnen. This year’s International Study Seminar was a great success. We were impressed with China’s Urban Development and the hospitality of the Chinese people. The busy nine-day schedule included guided tours of Beijing and Shanghai, presentations by U.S. Commercial Service, The U.S.-China Business Council, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and O’Melveny & Myers LLP. We also had amazing company visits at Cutter & Buck, Sina.com, Baoshan Iron & Steel, and General Motors China Investment Co. Ltd. |
