Enhancing Empathy Through Music

About Our Project

MGI_Pic_WebsiteThis project is designed to evaluate the capacity for group music interaction to influence empathy levels in young children.  We are looking forward to collaborating with area public schools and youth organizations to provide an arts-based program while examining potential changes in empathy in kids, ages 6-9.

The group interactions include fun activities based in previous research exploring prosocial outcomes.  Some activities may include: music making, composition, improvisation, drama, critical thinking and other forms of fine arts.

The researchers involved in this project have run this program in the United Kingdom and found positive outcomes regarding empathy levels – and the kids had fun and enjoyed the sessions while participating.

This project is funded by a generous grant from the John Templeton Foundation.
