Heidi in her cap and gown for graduation

Heidi Janz recently completed her Ph.D. in English at the University of Alberta. In all her spare time (!) she is also a playwright with a particular emphasis on fiction and drama for young adults. Thus far, she has had two plays produced, both of which deal with the experiences of physically disabled young people. Crips Against the Law of Gravity is about the trials and triumphs of growing up in a so-called “special” school. Returned to Sender was inspired by the Latimer “compassionate” homicide case and deals with issues surrounding perceptions of people with severe disabilities.

Snoopi: Singer and Expert on Singing with Synthetic Speech

Snoopi is shown performingSnoopi has created beautiful music with his AAC devices for the past 16 years. He has been interested in music since 1987 when a friend took him to an open-mic night at a piano bar. Since then, he has programmed and sung songs from a variety of genres: popular, country, and religious, to name a few. Snoopi's process of singing with synthetic speech takes a considerable amount of talent, ingenuity and patience. Each song can take about ten hours to program because every sound in a song must be assigned a pitch and time value. So far, Snoopi has recorded two albums, “Words of Love” and “Jam.” He is currently in the process of developing a third CD, yet to be titled. He is also preparing to release a CD of 900 song files for people to load into their AAC devices. Read Snoopi's profile to learn more.
