Dispelling Myths by Promoting the Facts about AT
There are so many misconceptions about Assistive Technology
and people with disabilities. There are, in fact, many websites designed
to address this very issue, the majority designed and posted by people
with disabilities. On our website, we'll cover two types of myths.
Individuals with disabilities face many stereotypes and
prejudices. Here are a few stories to show just some of the diversity
that exists among people with disabilities, to show that there is as
much diversity as among any population of people.
Too often, people think of equipment and high tech tools
when they think of Assistive Technology. But AT solutions should be
seen as a set of tools and strategies that reduce obstacles for people.
The tools could be high tech or low tech, or a strategy might be a solution
with no tool at all. Meet some people who demonstrate what AT really
is.
There are so many myths that we have not addressed yet.
Here is a list of myths that we hope to dispel in the future.
