Profiling David Chapple
"AAC doesn't make successful people; people make AAC successful."
-
David Chapple (2000*)
David prides himself on dispelling people’s
misconceptions about his capabilities. Many people thought he wouldn’t
graduate college, and he earned a bachelor degree in computer and information
science with a minor in communications. He has since taken graduate
courses in computer science.
Others thought David wouldn’t find a competitive job, and he
has had several that he attained independently. He has worked as a programmer,
software engineer, and consultant. David currently works for the Prentke
Romich Company as an ambassador and Remote Troubleshooter. His primary
responsibility is to return after-hours customer calls regarding technical
service questions.
David is also a talented writer. His chapter “Empowerment”
in Speaking Up and Spelling it Out* shares his humorous recollection
of entering the working world.
Another area of interest for David is leading a community activity
group for people who use AAC, called ACTIVE (Augmentative Communicators
That Initiate Vibrant Entertainment).
