Carin Westerlund: Swedish Poet
You and I are facing each other
The room is dark and silent
The only light I see is from your eyes and a burning candle
I have a speech disorder
You don't
Why are you so silent when your eyes say so much?
You wouldn't understand if my lips shaped
"I love you"
But I understand that your eyes say these words to me
Can you see it in my eyes?
Do we both have a speech disorder?

"Art leaves interpretation up to the viewer. In music you control
how you want the mood set and the message it gives….In music,
you wirte the words, the tempo, the bacground music - everything else
helps set the mood and amplify the message. I know you have the similar
ability in a painting, but I could never set the mood and create the
message. So I quit and went to music [at age 21]"

Speak UP June 2004, p. 4-6.
