Teaching English Abroad - León, Spain

Exploration Seminar: August 18 - September 8, 2012

Available to graduate students and advanced undergraduates with an interest in language teaching

We are excited to be offering a TESOL internship teaching English in León, Spain. It is open to graduate students and advanced undergraduates (with senior status at the time the program begins) who have a desire to gain experience teaching English as a foreign language. Students must have excellent English and a strong interest in language teaching.

Students will teach conversational English to local Spanish-speakers at the University of León’s Modern Language Center, while living in a delightful city with a rich history dating back to the first century BCE. Professor Sandra Silberstein will lead the accompanying seminar, designed to support interns’ teaching through instruction in language pedagogy.

Course credit: Five credits will be given for English 578 (graduate students) or English 474 (undergraduates).

Cost: $3074 (includes homestay and meals)
Additional expenses: a $300 IPE Program Fee, airfare, and Study Abroad Insurance (about $40/month)

Students in the program will maintain their UW residency and any financial aid eligibility already established. Credits earned will be recorded on students' UW transcripts for Autumn Quarter 2012 and apply directly to UW graduation requirements.
