The 18 permanent staff of the department bring over 185 years of departmental experience to their responsibilities. The average years of service of English Department staff is over ten years. This is a remarkable achievement in an academic department, suggesting a strong commitment to our mission and a high level of cooperation and mutual respect between faculty and staff and between staff and students.
Sherry Laing, Undergraduate Advising Program Coordinator, joined the department’s staff in 1971, immediately following her graduate studies here.
Cheryl Mathisen, Administrative Assistant to the Chair, celebrated her twenty-fifth anniversary in the department on March 20th.
Kathy Mork, Graduate Studies Program Supervisor, has 20 years in the department, and over 30 at the UW.
Susan Williams, Administrator, recently reached the thirty year mark at the UW and has served in the Department of English since 1986.

only in the lower double digits.
