Activities and Interests

Robert McNamara is in his sixteenth year at the University of Washington as a lecturer in the Interdisciplinary Writing Program.

He is the author of Second Messengers (poems), and the translator of Birajmohan and Other Poems, by the contemporary Bengali poet Sarat Kumar Mukhopadhyay. He has published articles on Ezra Pound, T. S. Eliot, and Rabindranath Tagore, and has given papers on teaching writing in the disciplines.

In addition to teaching writing courses linked with lectures in biology, engineering, history, philosophy, political science, psychology, and sociology, he has taught classes in modern poetry, contemporary American poetry, and verse writing. In Spring 2002, he taught a course on "Ezra Pound's Italy" in the English Department's Rome Program.
