Applications to become undergraduate English majors in the day program are accepted until 4:00pm on the 3rd Friday of Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters from Evening Degree Program students currently enrolled at the University of Washington. Students from historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. (Students who miss the application deadline are encouraged to meet with an English adviser in A-2-B Padelford Hall to discuss possible options and solutions ). The Creative Writing Option is not available in the evening program.
To be eligible to apply to the Department of English you must:

to the ENGLISH MAJOR application
Admission decisions will be announced on or before the fourth
Friday of the quarter. Students will be notified by e-mail to their UW
e-mail accounts.
Admission may be competitive. Completion of the above requirements does not guarantee admission; however, in recent years, all applicants who have met the admission criteria (2.00 overall GPA, 2.50 English GPA, completion of ENGL 301/297 or alternative courses) have been offered admission to the English major.
Students who are denied admission may petition by writing the English Department's Undergraduate Education Committee. Petitions should give full particulars, including any extenuating circumstances the student believes the Department should consider. Petitions must be submitted to the English Advising Office by the sixth Friday of the quarter in which admission is sought. Students who are denied admission may reapply in subsequent quarters.
