online application

The application to the English major is completed on line.

If all of your credits were earned at the UW (or from a combination of the UW plus AP or IB credit), once you have submitted your application and made a note of your confirmation code, your application is complete.

If you transferred credit to the UW from other colleges or universities, then in addition to submitting the online application and making a note of your confirmation code, you will need to provide us with copies of your original transcripts from those other colleges/universities. The application will give you the option of uploading those copies, delivering them to us in person, or faxing them to us.

here's what you'll need in order to complete this application:

1. Have a copy of your UW transcript available. You can view or print an unofficial transcript through the MyUW2nd window graphic system.

2. Know your UW NetID2nd window graphic and password: the application will require you to sign in to the UW system. (We do not accept applications to the English major from non-UW students; all applicants must have already been offered and have accepted undergraduate admission to the University of Washington either in the day program or in the UW Evening Degree Program.)

3. Have copies of complete, original transcripts from all other colleges and universities where you've earned college-level credit. Unofficial/photocopies are fine. If you do not have a copy of your original transfer transcript, you can request one from 171 Mary Gates Hall (if you are a pre-major), from your major advising office (if you've already declared another major), or from the Evening Degree Program office (if you are an evening student).

4. Download and complete either the instructional document GPA Calculation Worksheet (MSWord)2nd window graphic or the spreadsheet Calculate Your GPA (Excel)2nd window graphic. You will be asked for your UW GPA, your Combined Transfer GPA, your UW/TRF (overall) GPA, and your English GPA. (We know that most of you are not math majors -- just do your best!)

5. Be prepared to

Go to the Online portion of the English Major Application 2nd window graphic

Note: You will need to list your grades in ENGL 301/297 (or the former course numbers, ENGL 301 and 297), so if your final grades have not yet posted, please wait to begin the application until your grades appear on your UW transcript
.

Note that you can begin your application, save it, and return to it if you wish.

The deadline to submit your application is 4:00pm on the 3rd Friday of the quarter.
