The Department of English offers or is connected with a number of writing programs for graduate and undergraduate students, including:
Creative Writing: offers a two-year MFA graduate degree, providing a working community for students in fiction or poetry, as well as undergraduate courses for students interested in a BA with writing emphasis.
Expository Writing: offers undergraduate composition courses focusing on writing for multiple academic disciplines and writing about literature.
Interdisciplinary Writing Program: offers expository writing courses (ENGL 197, ENGL 198, and ENGL 199) linked with lecture courses in various disciplines.
Puget Sound Writing Program: offers an Invitational Institute and an Open Institute for all teachers interested in writing and the teaching of writing, Young Writers Workshops for students in grades 6-8 and 9-12, and onsite workshops in partnership with schools and districts.
Writing Center: offers an opportunity for students in introductory writing courses to find a receptive audience for their work, and for writers at any stage in the writing process to work one-on-one with a peer tutor in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
