Teaching AssistantshipsTeaching assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis to outstanding graduate students either at the time they are admitted to the program or as they pursue their degrees. Along with the stipend, there is a tuition waiver and student health, dental, and vision insurance. Teaching assistants teach one course each quarter under the supervision of the Director of Expository Writing. They are reviewed yearly for renewal, based on satisfactory teaching and academic progress. Applications for the following academic year are due by the January application deadline; offers are made in April. Teaching Assistantship applicants who are not native speakers of English must submit as part of their application a score of 290 or better on the Test of Spoken English (TSE) or the UW-administered SPEAK Test.Other AwardsDepartmental scholarships, fellowships, and prizes for graduate students include:
