Present: Karen Andrews, Beth Brin, Tom Conkling, Sheila Curl, Mel DeSart, Godlind Johnson, Linda Musser, Fred OíBryant, Don Richardson, Mary Schlembach, Andy Shimp, Tom Volkening, Suzanne Weiner, Glee Willis

Sheila opened the meeting by welcoming Mary, Andy, and Mel as newly appointed/elected officers.

Minutes of last yearís meeting(s) were approved.

Committees

Accreditation — Karen had nothing new to add.

Awards — Suzanne indicated the Committee would look for funding and keep the EEC notified of their progress. Don and Karen explained to those present who Homer Bernhardt was and why the Divisionís most prestigious award was named after him.

Directory — Fred indicated there were four people who had asked him about the duties and responsibilities of the Membership Directory Editor. Fred and Glee will pursue and report to the EEC as soon as a successor is chosen. There are 182 members in the current edition of the Directory.

E-mail discussion lists — Mel had nothing new to add. However, Sheila asked about the possibility of liaisons to other organizations. Linda mentioned that no liaison contacts had ever been formalized. Mel will be attending the ACRL STS meeting at ALA in New Orleans and will report back to the EEC. Andy suggested posting the ELD conference program to STS-L. Karen suggested sending it to some SLA divisions.

Newsletter — Tom will coordinate with Jill on posting to the issues of the Newsletter to the ELD Website.

Publications — Godlind will follow-up on some issues carrying over from last year. Electronic or print was briefly discussed. Consensus was to remain in print for the moment. Different ideas for increasing sales of the Guides were discussed, in particular advertising and notifying groups that might have specific interest in the content of particular Guides.

Membership — The question was raised about how new people find out about the inner workings of ELD. Some suggested the mentoring group should take that on. Consensus was to resurrect and update information from the old Division Resource Guide and distribute it. Committee chairs will be asked to come up with a brief description to include in a document for new or potential new members. Glee suggested potentially creating an FAQ. Beth will work on a draft of an informational document.

Other business

PIC IV - Beth reported on the PIC IV meeting. The guidelines for use of Division Operating Accounts were completely overhauled. Abstracts for papers to be published in the proceedings will now be due in September. The PIC is trying to push participation in submissions for the Best Paper Award. The PIC is interested in the continued creation and support of ASEE student chapters.

Sheila had asked Jill, who was not able to attend this meeting, if PowerPoint presentations could be put up on the ELD Web site. Jill suggested local loading with only pointers to those local sites actually on the ELD site. Sheila will pursue with the session chairs.

Sheila then led a brief discussion of factors related to availability of complementary and one-day registrations.

Sheila then indicated sheís interested in trying to pursue the idea of trying to achieve ASEE Fellow status for an ELD member. She will investigate requirements, etc. and report back to the EEC.

Dorothy Byers and Sheila will pursue a possible engineering-related project with JSTOR. Funding will be investigated. If prospects look favorable, there will likely be an ELD task force appointed with Dorothy leading. If that happens, EEC members will be contacted for suggestions on wording and content of a charge for that group.

The liaisons issue mentioned above was revisited. Linda suggested firming up responsibilities that such positions would carry and investigation of potential ELD members who might serve in those capacities, but no final decision was reached.

Finally, the possibility of ELD participation on the Engineering Information Inc. Advisory Board was briefly discussed. No decision was reached.

The formal EEC meeting was adjourned and conference planning for 2000 began.
