The Environmental Health program jointly administers the Environmental and Occupational Hygiene Ph.D. option with the Exposure Sciences program. The general requirements for this Ph.D. option are described below and are identical for students in either program.

Learning Objectives
Upon satisfactory completion of the PhD degree in Environmental and Occupational Hygiene, students will be able to:
- conceive, develop, and conduct original research leading to significant advances in the knowledge of mechanisms important to recognition, evaluation, or control of environmental or occupational hygiene problems;
- apply advanced methodology to research projects in environmental or occupational hygiene and develop new research methods to address relevant hazards; and
- demonstrate written and oral skills by preparing papers and presentations for peer scientists and the community at large.

Students are expected to complete all PhD core courses and Environmental and Occupational Hygiene PhD required courses.
