Occupational Hygiene

Learning Objectives

Students completing this emphasis area will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a firm scientific basis for the recognition and identification of health hazards associated with environmental and occupational exposures related to the workplace.
  • Integrate background knowledge to interpret toxicology literature and health data and incorporate these into the management of occupational health hazards.
  • Apply principles of engineering in the design of appropriate controls for workplace hazards.
  • Describe the selection and use of personal protective equipment for control of exposures.
  • Communicate to regulators, employers, workers and the public about the nature, health risks and remediation of environmental and occupational exposures.
  • Describe government regulations and standards pertaining to occupational safety and health.
  • Demonstrate competency in technical writing.
