Learning Objectives
Students completing this emphasis area will be able to:
- Demonstrate a firm scientific basis for the recognition and identification of health hazards associated with environmental and occupational exposures related to the workplace.
- Integrate background knowledge to interpret toxicology literature and health data and incorporate these into the management of occupational health hazards.
- Apply principles of engineering in the design of appropriate controls for workplace hazards.
- Describe the selection and use of personal protective equipment for control of exposures.
- Communicate to regulators, employers, workers and the public about the nature, health risks and remediation of environmental and occupational exposures.
- Describe government regulations and standards pertaining to occupational safety and health.
- Demonstrate competency in technical writing.
