- University of Washington
The University of Washington is one of the leading research universities in the nation. It is recognized for the high quality of its research and graduate programs. Since 1975 it has ranked first among US public universities in the amount of competitive grant and contract support received from federal sources.
- School of Public Health and Community Medicine
The UW School of Public Health and Community Medicine, the only accredited school of public health in the Northwest, is consistently ranked among the top five nationally by U.S. News and World Report
- Field Research and Consultation Group
The Field Research and Consultation Group serves the occupational safety and health needs of the State of Washington. The Field Group also provides learning experiences and research opportunities to students in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences.
- Laboratories
- Environmental Health Laboratory/Trace Organics Analytical Center
The Environmental Health Laboratory (EHL) and Trace Organics Analytical Center (TOAC) are directed by Dr. Russell Dills. The EHL has been accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Association since 1977 and supports agencies and employers throughout the State. The TOAC is supported by research grants and income from fee-for-service analyses.
- Industrial ergonomics laboratory
Dr. Peter Johnson measures physical risk factors during computer work. He is also developing methods to measure occupationally related muscle fatigue using electrical stimulation of the muscle.
- Optical remote sensing laboratory
The Optical Remote Sensing Laboratory (ORS lab) is devoted to sampling techniques that use electromagnetic radiation (e.g. ultraviolet, visible, infrared light, or lasers,) to identify and measure environmental pollution at locations distant from the instrument. Dr. Michael Yost is the director.
- Simpson lab
Dr. Chris Simpson's lab is developing biomarkers to help identify components of toxic exposures, such as wood smoke and diesel exhaust.
