Occupational & Environmental Medicine
UW Residency/Fellowship Application Instructions
Basic requirements include
- Graduation from a Class A medical school (United States, Canada, or equivalent)
- Completion of at least one year of ACGME-accredited internship, although three years training in an accredited primary care specialty (such as Family or Internal Medicine) is preferred
- US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
- Eligibility for a Full Washington State Medical License
The Residency/Fellowship program is approved by the Liaison Committee for Graduate Medical Education and is recognized by the American College of Preventive Medicine for specialty training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Fellows who successfully complete the program will have satisfied the didactic and practicum years for board-eligibility in Occupational Medicine.
All applications must be accompanied by four letters of recommendation, one of which must be written by the department chair or head of the applicant's residency program. After applications are received, the admissions committee will review them and invite qualified applicants for on-campus interviews. Interviews are strongly encouraged for all invited applicants. The deadline for applications is October 15.

Once you have completed the application process and are accepted into the Residency/Fellowship program, candidates must also apply to the University of Washington Graduate School. Please click the link for information and requirements. Note - graduates from non-English-speaking medical schools, must have a passing TOEFL score within the past two years.
Applicants who wish to be considered for joint training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine must be board eligible in internal medicine and should request applications from both programs. A letter indicating that application to both programs is being made must accompany each application.
