"Epidemiology as a basic science: A survey of work from the NIEHS Early Pregnancy Study"

Dr. Wilcox

Distinguished Visiting Epidemiologist

Allen J. Wilcox, M.D., Ph.D.
Principal Investigator, Epidemiology Branch, NIEHS
Editor-in-Chief, Epidemiology

Abstract:

Epidemiology is typically defined as the core science of public health. Epidemiology can also be instrumental in understanding basic biology - a funtion of epidemiology that is less widely appreciated. The tools and logic of epidemiology can shed light on human physiology in ways that laboratory science alone cannot. Examples will be provided from reproductive epidemiology.
