Diversity Statement

• Consistent with our goal of enhancing the intellectual and social enrichment of the Department and University of Washington community, we actively seek and welcome students from diverse backgrounds.
• You should submit a Diversity Statement if you want:
  • Your application to be reviewed with consideration of your educational, socio-economic disadvantaged, or disability-related background and/or culturally varied experiences.
  • To be considered for some types diversity-related funding offers.
• If you are of Native American heritage, and indicate this fact on the Epidemiology Application Form, you will be considered as coming from a diverse background even if you choose not to submit a Diversity Statement. However, you will be asked to submit proof of tribal affiliation.
• The statement should address the ways those experiences have affected the development of your special interests, career plans, future goals, and how you may have overcome various obstacles.
• Maximum one single-spaced page in 12-point font.
• This statement is optional. If you have little to say, please omit it from your form.
