Research Interests

Dr. De Roos' primary focus in epidemiology is studying occupational and environmental exposures as risk factors for disease. Particular exposures of interest are pesticides, persistent organic pollutants, air pollution, and drinking water contaminants. She has been involved in studies of these exposures in relation to various types of cancer, autoimmune diseases, and early biological effects. Dr. De Roos' current research includes studies of: possible endocrine and immune effects of weight loss-induced exposure to persistent pollutants; residential proximity to industrial facilities and risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma; spatial clustering of myelodysplastic syndromes and correlation with point pollution sources; and the role of cytokines and Epstein-Barr virus in development of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
