Research Interests
Dr. Ruth Nduati was lead Kenyan co-investigator of the "Breastfeeding and Transmission of HIV Study," after she completed her master's degree program at the University of Washington in October 1994. Dr. Nduati has become an internationally recognized authority on mother-to-child HIV transmission and pediatric HIV and is the Chair of the University of Nairobi Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Nduati is also serving as director of NARESA (Network of AIDS Researchers in Eastern and Southern Africa) which pioneered delivery of PMTCT services to > 400 sites and >100,000 women. Dr. Nduati also provides expertise to the Kenyan Ministry of Health and WHO, and is currently leading efforts to decentralize Kenyan medical education as part of the new PRIME-Kenya initiative. Dr. Nduati has a long history of collaborations with Drs. Carey Farquhar, Grace John-Stewart, Julie Overbaugh and Barbra Richardson.
