This position is responsible for providing the full scope of technical/clinical research, consultant and advisory services related to the epidemiology of maternal and child health in Alaska. The work consists of collecting, analyzing and interpreting surveillance and other health data in accordance to standard epidemiological methods; designing and conducting original evaluations; and working with public health program managers to design and conduct impact evaluations. The position acts as the expert for the Division of Public Health on the epidemiology of maternal and child health. This position supports several surveillance programs including the Birth Defects Registry, Surveillance of Child Abuse and Neglect System, Child Death Review and Maternal-Infant Mortality Review, as well as grant reporting for the Title V MCH Block Grant. There is ample opportunity for individual research projects using a wide variety of data sources including Vital Statistics, Trauma Registry, hospital discharge database, WIC, National Violent Death Reporting System, and Medicaid.
